RONALD MC DONALD CARE MOBILE

On Friday, January 28, 2011 the South-Western City School District entered a new milestone in providing healthcare services for our students.  Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House, in conjunction with corporate donors and private benefactors, built and donated the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile.  The Care Mobile will provide in-district pediatric healthcare services to SWCS students every Friday.

The brand-new, state-of-the-art Ronald McDonald Care Mobile is staffed with a full-time doctor, nurse, medical technician, and a driver.  Children from birth to age twenty-one are eligible for healthcare services ranging from well-care visits to immunizations to sick-child appointments.  All appointments will be made through the District’s school nurses who will coordinate the visits with the Care Mobile staff.  Although the Care Mobile is not designed to take the place of the student’s primary care physician, it is a place where students’ medical needs can be met on an as-needed basis.

There is a cost for a visit to the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile.  Parents must present their insurance or Medicaid card for their child to receive services.   However no child will be turned away due to a family’s inability to pay.   If a student has already received services at Nationwide Children’s Hospital or any of the neighborhood Nationwide Children’s Hospital clinics, the child’s information is already in the network.

One of the District’s primary goals is to help parents keep their children’s immunizations up-to-date.  The Care Mobile offers a full-range of immunizations including the DPT and MMR for children entering kindergarten to the latest Tdap immunization required for current and incoming seventh graders.

The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile will be located at the South-Western City School District’s middle school campuses for the next several weeks.  Please see the schedule listed below for times and locations.
